Re: meditation is not something we "do" ; subtle matter to think of ;

Dear Prof.V Rajaraman:-:::-:-:::

'meditation' itself is not something we "do": but something that happens and we witness it, as Jiddu Krishnamurti opines { dic_ opine v state as ones opinion }
or says; Sir ,

i desire to identify where the above quotation occurs in Krishnamurti talks;

begin

Jiddu Krishnamurti - The Art of Meditation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0lxy8UNZmc

this talks of "absence of direction" in meditation ; Quote ... meditation is a non-directive in which there is no operation of will at all ... Unquote; <. this is also the idea expressed in the above quotation in red, only in different words .>

end

i think it <.the quotation verbatim in red ( though not so here ).> is not in the talk above ;but, it is in the talk below:

begin

J Krishnamurti Talks: the beginning of meditation - this light in oneself

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgBYDV8gqFY

you-tube - search for the above talk gives the below statement in red at the point about 10:45 ( min , i think ) of total length of 31:22 ( min , i think )

quote

... meditation is not something we "do" + meditation is a movement in the whole question of our living ...

unquote

i admit, however, the quotation i attempted to give at the beginning of this letter from Krishnamurti-talk is not verbatim ;but, only a paraphrasing of the idea he presented;

i hope i have clarified my position adequately; please take some opportunity to go over the talk "J Krishnamurti Talks: the beginning of meditation - this light in oneself" available through you-tube; when i copied the above title of the talk and pasted in the command line above Google, i got a list of Krishnamurti talks several of which are the same talk given in various contexts, i think, and any one of them (.i think, though i didn't try all of them.) is the talk desired; i imagine all of the talks are closely related with negligible differences; please examine it, Sir ... ;or, use the link given for

J Krishnamurti Talks: the beginning of meditation - this light in oneself

above;

>>> i am very fond of this talk as it confirms my long-time hunch we cannot go and do meditation like we can go and cook sambar ... ; apparently there is no effective algorithm for meditation --- prestigious AI research regardless ! it seems some Computer Scientists attempted programming a machine to meditate --- misguided effort, if i am not mistaken;aside begin Turing declared there is no way to tell the distinction between a human and a Turing-machine implying a machine can do anything a human can do; myQuestion: can a Turing-machine meditate?[]::: i don't know the answer ;but, the Turing Hypothesis is that Turing-machine cannot be shown to be incapable of meditation; end aside ;;; action and inaction are very closely the same if we were to heed to Bhagavad Gita ( BG ), TheBhagavadgita (.S. Radhakrishnan.) The Chapter IV "the way of knowledge" presents a very eminent discussion ---
( 16 ) what is action? what is inaction? --- as to this even the wise are bewildered; i will declare to thee what action is, knowing which thou shall be delivered from evil;
( 17 ) one has to understand what action is, and likewise one has to understand what is wrong action and one has to understand about inaction; hard to understand is the way of work; <.the remark that it is hard to understand is an aside of rare caution in an otherwise brief and to the point work of eminence, that is BG; let us be humble when quoting BG.>;
( 18 ) he who in action sees inaction and action in inaction, he is wise among men, he is a yogin and accomplished all his work;
( 19 ) he whose undertakings are all free from the will of desire, whose works are burned up in the fire of wisdom, him the wise call a man of learning;
( 20 ) having abandoned attachment to the fruits of works, ever content, without any kind of dependence, he does nothing though he is ever engaged in work;

we cannot be cocksure {.dic_ cocksure adj over confidant, arrogant.} of the feeling meditation is not something that can be done; because it can be;;; only, true action is identical to inaction (.as BG declares.); that is, what we can truly "do" is also what we "need" not "do" really;;; interesting !

with humble regards ...

Sincerely
( Krishna Rao PUTCHA )

any comments from you will be deeply cherished, Sir;

may I please request you to forward this letter to Prof Subrahmanian also, please; and, anyone else you deem receptive and interested;
