Kautilya ;
Kautilya ;

Dear Bhasi and Santosh :
i learn from the Internet google search that the one person variously
known as Kautilya or Chanukya or Vishnugupta lived between 400 BC and
200 AD ; and , authored a work known as Arthashastra ; it seems there
is a vague resemblance between Machiavellianism of European culture
and Kautilya's Arthashastra ; the thrust of Kautilya's advice to the
ruler is to be a Rajarshi ( meaning a wise king ) ; Kautilya's
Arthashastra deals with morals as well ; Kautilya advises a king to
embrace a sevenfold nature vaguely resembling the fourfold SamaDhana
BedhaDando-paya known popularly in India.;
from a cursory { dic_ cursory a hasty and so not thorough } review i
gather the impression that Kautilya served Chandragupta Maurya ; and ,
Alexander's governor in Punjab was defeated by the Chandragupta
Maurya's forces ;
Internet search also gives Arthasastra of Kautilya translated by
R.Shamasastry , Bangalore , Government Press 1915 ; my purpose is
limited to an overview rather than engage in minutely reasoned
management science ; the uninitiated are apt to { dic_ ( apt to ) tending to } get lost in detail ;
not having been trained in management science , i avoided that
eventuality ; a few remarks are all what i may limit myself to ---
> order in the conduct of social business is in evidence : this is to be devoutly desired - this order is not established in a vacuum ; it is subject to the values of the society ;
> marriage customs differ from the present day customs and make interesting reading ;
this review is basically incomplete ; and , i request Prof. Bhasi to bring to
bare his unique experience and contribute an article in line with the
discipline of modern Management Science to invitingindia.com ;
i wish all the best to Sandralaya , Srutilaya , Swararag , Vivek and Manjima ;
Sincerely
(( Krishna Rao PUTCHA ))
