"you are it" - this is a game

(by way of introduction - historically this game , i remember , was played by perhaps black children of the U.S. during { I don't know . Somebody , please help ! } - this game can now be played by all , each of who will be referred to as a 'participant')

this game is played at the street-intersections where there are several street-lights which are lit during dusk every day ; one of the participants is chosen as the ‘it’ ; ‘it’ has several shadows formed by the various street-lights as have all other participants as well ; all the participants are randomly running or walking around ; ‘it’ seeks to step on one of the shadows of one of the other participants ; and , as ‘it’ succeeds ‘it’ says to this other participant out aloud "you are it" ; this is mandatorily {.dic_ mandatory adj authoritatively ordered; obligatory; man.da.to.ri.ly adv.} acknowledged and the other participant now becomes the ‘it’ ; the game goes on or simply given up
