Kerala's First Grand Master

Kerala's First Grand Master

G.N. Gopal, 18 year old talented became India's latest and Kerala's first Grand Master. He is now in the elite group of 64-square game wizards which includes Viswanathan Anand, P. Harikrishna and Koneru Humpy.

He has succesfully met all the three GM norms ( 10 Game norm, 9 game all-pla-all norm and 9 game GM norm) to become a Grand Master this week.

G.N. Gopal, son of Mr. Narayana Pillai and Geetha Prakasini hails from Aluva, Ernakulam Dt. Kerala. For the teacher family, the Grandmaster title has been a happy reward for years of toil and sacrifice since the little kid took up the chess game eight years ago.

G. N. Gopal paved his own way through chess' exciting maze only through the constant help and encouragement from his parents. Surprisingly, there were no sponsors and no financial assistance either from government and SAI.

This will happen in Kerala only!

Let us congratulate this young talent.

it is gratifying we Indians are good at chess for having invented the game { ! } ;

Chess Association issued a show-cause to GM

Chess assocication of kerala (CAK) is on the way to take stringent disciplinary actions against Gopal. He had alleged that the CAK had become a ''pocket-borough'' of certain individuals, who did nothing for the development of the game. This statement was made at a press meeting recently.
